Class experience
Mrs. Savage wants you to join her Hive of Horrors 5th grade book club! We will be reading Small Spaces by Katherine Arden. At our first meeting, students will receive their books and work together to create a reading schedule, set goals, and agree on expectations for our club. Students will be able to practice many valuable reading skills like making connections, predictions/inferences, asking questions, all the while using sticky notes to practice annotating the text (not to mention the very best part of book club–the discussions and being a part of a group!). Participating in a book club benefits students as they practice time management, active listening, articulating their thoughts, and deeper comprehension than when reading alone. In order to make the book club a successful and positive experience, book clubbers should already have motivation to read and a willingness to speak in a small group setting.
